Millions of people around the planet include their furry friend when they count the total number of family members, and for good reason. Human beings receive a lot of benefits from having their cat or dog around to cheer them up and keep them company. You may be surprised, however, to learn that a very small percentage of pet owners purchase insurance policies to help them with veterinary bills.

There are two problems with the decision not to have this type of insurance: 1. As every pet owner knows, medical treatment for pets can be very expensive; 2. Because pets are considered “family members,” they should have the same access to medical help that is given to humans. Without such insurance, the costs can cause serious damage to the family finances, and pet owners may hesitate to give their dog or cat immediate care because of the cost.

A Popular Breed

Consider the German Shepherd, for example. This is one of the most popular breeds in the world, and it is certainly one of the best known. Originally, the breed was developed about 200 years ago to work as a herding dog for sheep (thus the name). They are recognised as being very intelligent, with the quickness and speed necessary to do their job. They also have a great sense of smell and don’t shy away from working.

The German Shepherd has become popular for other reasons, of course. They are excellent for search-and-rescue. But, they also make wonderful family pets, prized for their friendly demeanor and intelligence that makes them fascinating companions. So, if you’re the owner of one of these magnificent dogs, and you don’t have the insurance just mentioned, you might want to give some serious thought to purchasing German Shepherd pet insurance.

If you take some extra time to learn all you can about the food you feed your dog, and you take extra care to make sure that they’re inside during extreme weather conditions, you should also provide the insurance coverage that they need to get the best medical care available. You provide them with a comfortable place to sleep and even go the extra mile to keep them happy, with exercise, toys, and so on. You’d be wise to go the next step and put reliable pet insurance in place.

Emergency Expenses

Many families are unprepared for emergency medical expenses, whether for themselves, members of the family, or for their pets. If there is a serious illness or an accident requiring expert medical attention, these families can see any savings they have wiped out, and they may have to take special steps to be able to pay off the debt over time. With insurance from one of the leaders in the industry, you don’t have to take this chance.

It’s also possible that your family pet could be one of its breed to suffer from genetic weaknesses that can also be the source of serious medical expenses. If you own a German Shepherd, you may want to look into this a bit more closely. The breed has known genetic issues, including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, Von Willebrand disease, and degenerative myelopathy. Be prepared with good pet insurance.
